Polymers are the nasty little secret of artificial racing surfaces. Can we wait for the day when some evidence comes out indicating that the ingestion of materials on these tracks will be responsible for respiratory issues of both horses and riders? If the Jockey Guild had more clout, then maybe some research could take place to certify that there should be no cause for concern. State racing commissions should exercise some leadership in this debate, but that will not happen. We all know when government declares something as safe(Ground Zero air), should be the time that reasonable people ask more questions and demand more answers.
