Saratoga Springs, New York
Saturday's theme is the celbration of Satatoga's history. It is certain that none will be made.
If the Yaddo Handicap was woefully insufficient as the featured race on a Saturday afternoon at Saratoga, it has been replaced by a race of even less significance.
The New York Racing Association shelved the Yaddo, which drew only five entries, and replaced it with the Duke of Magenta, a $110,000-added overnight stakes that drew seven and offers $10,000 more in added money than the originally-scheduled race for New York-bred fillies and mares, which had been run continuously since 1980, often in two divisions.
So, the first Saturday card in memory at Saratoga without a graded stakes is now without so much as a listed stakes, but remains nevertheless an 11-race marathon with four maiden races, only one of which is for two-year-olds.

Could it be that NYRA was asked to move the Sword Dancer (which has been the third Saturday feature ever since the meet went to six week) back a week by Arlington and/or BC Ltd. so that if Chicago got hit by a big storm that made the turf at Arlington questionable, horsemen then had the option of scratching and running in the Sword Dancer the following week?
True Paul, but that extra week with the Whitney and Curlin makes up for it. I know I have made my plans now that Nuevo Red will be there.
